The city of McDonough, GA is located about 30 miles southeast of Atlanta just off of I-75.
McDonough is the county seat of Henry County, which was originally
inhabited by the Creek Indian nation.
Henry County has also been called “The Mother of Counties” since giving
birth to at least 8 surrounding counties.
The city is named after naval officer Commodore Thomas McDonough.
There are lots of things to see and do in the Henry County
area. Whether it’s Atlanta Motor Speedway, Nash Farm Battlefield, Noah’s Ark Animal Rehabilitation Center,
Heritage Park, Scarlett’s Retreat Day Spa, Hazard County Skate Park, or
Southern Belle Farm – there are plenty of entertainment options to keep curious
visitors busy for hours and even days on end!
The famous artist, Picasso, once said that “Art washes away
from the soul, the dust of everyday life.” If true, then residents here are well groomed
because the fine arts are very much alive and well in McDonough. The Theatre at 37 Lemon Street,
home to the Henry Players, has been voted the Best Theatre Experience in the
Metro Atlanta Area by readers of Access Atlanta. The McDonough Arts Council as well as the
Henry Arts Alliance hosts artistic events throughout the year. The Winsor Gallery, located just off the
downtown square, features original landscapes, seascapes, and still life works
by local and regional artists. And if
all that is not enough, true art lovers can dine at The Seasons Bistro where
the works of local artists are showcased on the walls and available for sale.
The contemporary Christian band, “Casting Crowns” is home
based out of Eagles Landing First Baptist Church, which is also located in
McDonough.
