Today was somewhat different in that I had three piano jobs that spread out in terms of both time and geography. The first one began at 10 AM at Bible Baptist Church in Monroe, GA. I had tuned this piano just a couple of weeks ago but now the piano was making a clicking sound whenever the middle keys were played. The repair was simple, just removed the action and tightened up a couple of support nuts for the hammer rest rail.
Job #2 was a noon tuning at a residence in Union Point, GA. The piano was a nice little Kawai Console that was about 25 cents flat from standard pitch. Usually when a piano is more than 10 cents flat it requires at least 2 tunings before the strings will actually remain at standard pitch after the tuning. But, in this case, money seemed to be an issue so I went ahead at pulled it up to standard in just one tuning with the client's understanding that the tuning may not hold as well as it would had I done 2 tunings. It turned out OK, hopefully it will stay put for a while.
Job #3 was at 4:45 PM at Morgan County High School in Madison, GA. This was an old Baldwin F Grand that is located in the school auditorium. There were some keys sticking in the midrange of the piano, so I pulled the action, spaced 4 hammers and then tuned it to standard pitch. Thankfully, I had tuned the piano this past fall prior to school starting, so the tuning was still in pretty good shape.
Got home at about 7 PM. It made for a pretty long day.
